Cheat Chaser - Cheat Codes for Classic Gaming Platforms

Arabian Nights: Prince of Persia

Game Review & Description

When classic franchises make the leap to new platforms, there's always a bit of risk - especially when the original game is as beloved as Prince of Persia. The Dreamcast's Arabian Nights: Prince of Persia took that challenge head-on, transporting players back into the boots of the agile prince, blending the series' iconic platforming and swordplay with a fresh coat of 3D graphics and storytelling charm.

The plot once again revolves around treachery, magic, and daring rescues, with the Prince navigating sprawling palace corridors, traps, and guards as he attempts to restore peace to his kingdom. Gameplay retains the series' hallmark precision jumps, timed traps, and tense sword duels, with an extra dimension adding more freedom - and sometimes frustration - as you gauge leaps and dodge hazards. It’s classic gameplay wrapped in a modern (for its time) presentation, keeping the tension consistently high.

Visually, Arabian Nights: Prince of Persia presented an attractive blend of rich, atmospheric environments. Elegant palaces, foreboding dungeons, and expansive outdoor vistas showcase the Dreamcast’s graphical prowess, though admittedly some textures may appear dated today. Still, the smooth animations, particularly the Prince’s acrobatic movements and swordfighting, keep the visual charm intact.

The game's sound design complements the exotic adventure perfectly. Atmospheric music and suitably dramatic sound effects heighten every perilous jump or intense battle. Even the occasionally over-the-top voice acting lends itself well to the game's spirited charm, making the overall experience enjoyable despite a few rough edges.

While perhaps overshadowed by later titles in the franchise like The Sands of Time, the Dreamcast's Arabian Nights: Prince of Persia remains a fascinating chapter in the series' storied history. Fans looking for a challenging yet nostalgic adventure will find plenty to appreciate here, as will newcomers keen to explore how a classic platformer transitioned into 3D.
